The Pacific National Forest

The first place I will show you on this list is the Pacific National Forest, which is one of the best forests that you can ride with an ATV in the US.

The Pacific National Forest is located in the northwest, in Washington State.

The forest has about 80 miles of motorized terrain trails for vehicles and a total area of 100,00 dunam featuring all types of terrain.

In addition, the forest also offers horseback riding, bicycle trails, lakes and camping options, and not to mention amazing views.

Most of the year it is pretty cool and rainy and because of this, I highly recommend you come and ride only between April to December.

Hidden Falls Adventure Park

Hidden Falls is, in my opinion, the best park you can ride on an ATV.

It offers a huge territory, and is located in Austin, Texas. It has perfect air conditioning for most of the year and is only suitable for ATV or UTV riders.

Also, I would highly recommend this place to beginner riders because it offers lots of different activities for kids such as a ski resort, bunny slopes for kids, and black diamond tracks for hardcore enthusiasts, and I’m sure your child will love these activities.

The second reason this place is very suitable for children is that the surface is very straight and safe for riding.

This place is perfect for families because it offers camping and cabins for those who want to sleep there.

Also, if you want to ride in the park, you will have to pay about $25 per rider.

Baxter State Park

Baxter State Park is a great place for riding an ATV and is located near to the Canadian border. It offers a huge area of 1,250 miles with trails for all kinds of vehicle.

In addition, this place offers huts and tents for rent if you want to sleep there, and the place also offers a variety of activities like canoeing and mountain climbing.

Baxter State Park is surrounded by a mountain chain that reaches more than 3,000 meters high, which makes this place all the more beautiful.

I personally recommend coming to this place only in the summer months because in the winter months it is very cold and even unbearable.

Black Hills National Forest

The Black Hills National Forest is, in my opinion, the perfect place for camping because of the fantastic areas it has and the perfect weather most days of the year.

Black Hills National has a huge area of 1.2 million acres which includes 600 miles of accessible off-road trails and it offers lots of activities such as hiking, boating, fishing, and watching wildlife. If you want to fish make sure you have a license so that you don’t get a fine.

If you’re not a fan of camping in tents, this park also offers caravans, cabins, and even hotels.

The Black Hills is open most of the year, and I highly recommend it to families who want to go camping because this definitely the perfect place to do it.

Paiute ATV Trail System

Paiute ATV Trail System is one of the best places in the United States to ride your ATV.

It is located in Utah and offers a huge area of 2,000 miles of trails that are specifically designed for ATV riders.

Also, there are fantastic views, and it is very quiet, especially at night. This place offers the opportunity for field tours and professional ATV tours that you can rent.

My favorite thing about Paiute ATV Trail place is that it has lots of wildlife you can see along the road such as bears, elk, chickens, beavers, owls, and many other animals, which makes riding much more fun and interesting.

Generally the weather is pleasant for riding most of the year but the best months are September and October because it’s not too hot and not too cold, which makes the riding very comfortable and light.

Imperial Sand Dunes

Well, it’s time to get to the hard-to-reach places for the professional riders.

The Imperial Sand Dunes is located in California and offers an area of 40 miles in length and 5 miles in width and it contains only dunes and sand.

The weather is perfectly suited for ATV riding, and this place is only suitable for advanced riders and you should understand that it is much more dangerous to ride than the other places on this list.

In addition, the maximum height of the dunes is six feet high, which is not considered huge or small and  most of the high dunes are in the center.

The Imperial Sand Dunes are open every day of the year, and to be able from October 1st to April you will need to buy a permit that costs $15 each year. Certificates are $35 and season permits cost $150.

Ocala National Forest

The Ocala National Forest is one of the best locations you can ride on an ATV in the US.

It was established in 1908 and is located north of the Everglades and offers more than 200 miles of trails that are specifically intended for ATV riding. It also has about 80 miles that is intended for larger SUVs.

There are lots of lakes where you can fish, and there is plenty of wildlife and plants that you will see while riding.

For those who want to sleep there, you are welcome to camp or you you can stay in hotels and cabins nearby.

St. Joe State Park, Missouri

St. Joe State Park is one of the most fun places for ATV riding and is very popular in the United States and it has all kinds of trails such as mud, sand, and dirt.

It covers an area of 2,000 acres and has 50 miles of trails and elevations. It can also accommodate dirt bike and UTV riders and is perfect for riders of all levels.

Additionally, the park has horse riding, lake fishing, and family camping and is open from April 1st to October 31st. Overnight accommodation costs $5, which is considered a very cheap price.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Utah

The Coral Pink Sand Dunes was established in 1963 and is more of a desert located in Utah and mostly offers sand dunes.

There are 1,200 acres of amazing dunes that come in amazing colors like brown and even red which makes riding very fun and interesting.

It’s excellent for UTV and dirt biking too and there is also horseback riding, hiking, and camping although I personally do not recommend you camp there because it is very warm there and uncomfortable for sleeping.

It is open every day of the week and an entry ticket will cost $10 a day or $20 if you want to camp there.

The Coral Pink Sand Dunes is an excellent place for advanced riders and less so for beginners because the terrain is very difficult to ride on.

Hatfield-McCoy Trails

Hatfield-McCoy is located in South West Virginia, and is a trail park that has been designed specifically for ATV riders.

It offers a whopping space of 700 miles where you can explore all types of trails such as mud, marsh grass and more.

It also offers mountain climbing, camping, racing and even the possibility of sleeping in nearby marble hotels, plus it has amazing views and excellent riding weather.

The Hatfield-McCoy trails can accommodate all types of riders from beginners to more advanced riders and it is open every day of the year.

I’m very much recommend that you consult a guide to help you choose the location that has the best trails for you because there are lots of trail types on offer here.

Ride Royal Blue Resort

Ride Royal Blue Resort is one of my favorite places for ATV riding and in my opinion, it is also one of the best for ATV trails in Tennessee.

This resort is located in the heart of the Cumberland Mountains of
Tennessee, and offers about 600 miles of trails and has incredible views that make riding very enjoyable.

The best thing about this place is that there are a variety of trails that can suit all levels, from beginners to advanced riders.

There is also the possibility to camp or rent caravans, and if you want to eat here there is a buffet that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I highly recommend going to Ride Royal Blue Resort, especially for families who want to camp and ride an ATV in a good place that has a variety of trails.

Fun Plantation, Northern Maine Trail Systems

The Moro Plantation is, in my opinion, the most beautiful place in this list that you can ride an ATV.

In fact, it covers a relatively small area of 1,000 kilometers, and the paths can reach heights of more than 1,200 meters, which offer spectacular views.

In addition, the weather there is very cold and the snow can reach a depth of 37 inches, which makes it suitable only for advanced riders who can control their ATV in the snow.

Also, this place is only open from the end of spring until the end of October each year. Hotels or cabins are the only accommodation on offer there due to the cold weather.

In general, I recommend the Moro Plantation for riders who want to challenge their riding abilities, and I would not recommend sleeping there because of the cold weather.

The Great Western Trail

The Great Western Trail is by far the longest and broadest place on this list.

In fact, the Great Western Trail crosses from Canada to Mexico and offers a huge area of 4,455 miles and passes through 5 states in total – Montana, Wyoming Idaho, Arizona, and Utah.

The Great Western Trail can accommodate travellers who want to walk along the footpaths or ride ATVs, dirt bikes, horses, and more.

Also, you can visit a ski resort, skyline, fishing lakes, national parks and even go camping.

I highly recommend going to the Great Western Trail to riders who want to ride on long and large trails and to those who want to challenge their riding skills.

Southwest Virginia Hatfield Trail ~ McCoy

Southern West Virginia is a huge trail system located in the southwest corner of West Virginia and offers a huge area of 700 miles.

This huge trail system divides into 8 different and smaller trail systems in 7 counties such as Barrowlo, Buffalo Mountain, Hardig, Ivy Branch, Native American, Finkle Creek, Little Pocahontas, and Rocaus. The most amazing thing is that each of the counties has different characteristics that make it unique.

Also, there are guided tours and also accommodation in rented houses, camping, or cabins.

The best thing about this trail system is that each of the counties has a lot of history. For example, the Hatfield McCoy National Trailfest is the biggest annual event there, and it is held in the little city of Gilbert. It attracts lots of riders from around the world lasts for about 5 days, which is great for a family vacation.

I personally like the trail system Southern West Virginia very much, and it can be perfect for families. I also highly recommend consulting a guide to help you choose the best trail for you.
