How to Jump a Mountain Bike?

Jumping on your mountain bike is undoubtedly an exercise that many riders want to know how to learn, and Fit takes a lot of practice.

In this article, you will learn step by step on how to jump your mountain bike.

How to jump a mountain bike? ( in 4 steps)

Step 1. Be at the right speed.

The first and most important thing about jumping with your mountain bike is the speed at which you start.

Everyone has a different rate, and everyone is on a different level. For example, a beginner rider can not ride very fast because he cannot lower the distance the bike can reach.

In general, I suggest you jump with your bike at a relatively slow speed, especially if you start, and only after you slow down or know how to jump with the bike at a slow speed will you be able to move faster.

Step 2. Be Ready to reach the ramp.

You must be ready to jump through the ramp, and there are several things you need to do.

Stop pedaling as soon as your front wheel reaches the rim of the ramp.

Bend a little bit as soon as you reach the ramp, but don’t bend too close to the handlebars because it can cause your bike to rise forward, which can be very dangerous.

Be in the air when jumping and don’t sit on the seat until the landing is complete.

Once your wheel reaches the rim of the ramp, you have to stand straight and pull the bike forward with you, so you don’t lose control of the bike.

Step 3. Be in the air

Now that you’re done jumping through the ramp, the fun part of coming is now that you’re in the air.

Once you are in the air, it can be very stressful at first, but with time it will start to get less and less stressful, and because of this, you need to relax and breathe.

Step 4. The landing stage

And now to the final stage, which is the landing stage, and this is perhaps the most important step in jumping your bike that includes some things you need to worry about.

It is essential to land on your two wheels and not try to land on the first wheel and then the second wheel because you can lose control very quickly, which can be very dangerous.

Another thing is to try to push your bike as tightly as you can to the ground so you can regain control and help you grip the ground.

Additionally, Try to hold the bike as tightly as you can so that you don’t lose control especially if you reach a very high altitude

Be a good rider

Jumping with mountain bikes requires experience else it will be very dangerous most expecially to beginners.

You must be sure you are a good rider, and if you are not sure what your riding level is, you can ask a bicycle trainer or a friend to help you.

I am not saying you must be a fantastic rider to start jumping with your mountain bike; I am only saying you must be a good rider and with enough riding experience before you start jumping because jumping is very dangerous most especially to new riders.

Be strong

You will need to be strong before you start jumping with your mountain bike.

In fact, I strongly recommend that you go to the gym at least 3 times a week to strengthen your body so that it will be easier for you to jump with your bike. If you do not have money for a gym, you can also do home gym exercises to strengthen your body.

In addition to this, you should eat right according to your training and your fitness. If you are a professional rider, I would even recommend you meet a nutritionist to help you create a nutrition menu.

Take off the saddle

It is very important to consider removing your saddle because while you are trying to jump with your mountain bike, your saddle can damage your groin, which can be very painful and even cause severe injuries.

Choose your area

Before you try to jump with your mountain bike, you need to pick the place and route that you will make your jump.

An excellent place to jump with your mountain bike is usually a smooth path that has a good surface for landings like sandy grass or even mud that has no rocks or dangerous stones that can cause an accident.

Also, I highly recommend that you imagine what your jump will look like based on where you are going to ride, which will help you.

Wear good protective gear

Wearing good protective gear that protects your body well from injuries is by far the most important thing you need to take care of every time before you try to jump with your mountain bike and in general something that needs to be done before every ride.

Also, it is very important to have good protective equipment and not compromise your safety, especially before jumping with your mountain bike.

Protective gear should include a helmet, shields, long pants, and gloves to ensure you are safe when riding on your bike

Tips for jumping on a mountain bike

1. Practice at home – lots of riders ask me if there is the option to practice jumping at home and in fact, the best method I can recommend to practice at home is to jump on a table.

To do this, make sure you have a small table and enough space. Start practicing by slowly jumping over the table, and after a few times you will be able to jump over the table, and you will feel more confident after then, you can practice jumping on the bike in the field.

2. Learn Which Timing Is Best For You – Pay attention to the times you practice and jump on your bike to find the best timing for you.

Everyone has the best and suitable jump timings for him, and the more you find the best timings to you, the more you enjoy and improve your jump performance.

3. Use Your Feet – The most important part you should pay attention to when trying to jump your bike is your feet.

In fact, to reach a high jump, you need to push your legs up as tightly as you can when you reach the ramp.

The more you push your legs up in a stronger way, the more you will reach a higher jump height.

4. Do not pedal when jumping – It is important not to pedal when you are in the air because you can put too much pressure on your legs which can change the direction of movement that your bike is going which can lower you and your momentum. Instead, focus on being stable and preparing for landing.

5 Sit back – you will be more stable on the bike when you are in the air and to land properly, you will need to sit back while you are in the air

Once you are in the air, the last thing you want to do is lean forward because it will cause you to be unstable and land incorrectly.

Don’t try to jump on high ramps that is not in your level – never try to Jump on high ramps and places that give you a high jump height that doesn’t fit your level because if you try to jump at heights that do not fit your level, you may be injured and increase your risk of accident.

And because of that, try it at first, jump on lower ramps and reach lower heights and only after you trust yourself more You will gradually start moving to higher jump heights

6. Remove the saddle – I highly recommend you drop the saddle when jumping on your bike because it will allow you to have a lot more room to absorb the landing and also help you move more freely when jumping. If you don’t want to lower the saddle so at least try to adjust the height of the saddle to a good size that you are comfortable with.

7. Add air to your tires– Another tip to help you get much faster is to put air in the tires before jumping on your mountain bike.

Adding air to your wheels will give you not only more speed but also a very high jump height and even more stability when riding.

8. Protective Gear – Never try to jump on your bike without wearing protective gear.

You have to understand that in the first few times, you are going to crash and fall, and because of this, you will need good and high-quality protective equipment to protect yourself best.

Also, protective gear will give you more confidence when riding.

9. Feedback – The most important thing that you as a mountain biker need to do in order to progress is to get feedback.

The best thing you can do to get feedback is to ask a friend to take a photo of you jumping on your bike so you can see what you need to improve

Another way you can do it Is to get feedback from a friend or coach who can help you and give you constructive criticism.

10. Maintain Your Bike – Jumping Your Bike Requires a strong and well-maintained bike that can handle the stress you put on it.

Because of that, it is very important always to maintain your mountain bikes so that they are durable enough for jumping.

Can kids jump with mountain bikes

Jumping is quiet different from child to child, and a lot depends on the level of your child. In fact, it is very dangerous for children to start trying to jump the mountain bike because they are more susceptible to accidents.

I personally recommend letting your child try to jump on his bike just if he is a competitor in racing and only if he is a good rider who is at least average level.

However, I do not recommend that children who are beginner riders trying to jump on their bikes.

Also, you will have to look after your child and see that he is practicing jumping on his bike well and Not dangerously.
