One of the most important factors most people consider when buying a motorcycle is the color of the motorcycle and its design while I personally see a lot of people choosing their motorcycle color only because they love it and not for the various safety factors it provides. Know that your motorcycle color also has different safety roles.
What motorcycle color should I get? You have to choose the color of your motorcycle according to the level of visibility, safety, and heat absorption while the safest and best color with the most benefits is white.
There are a few factors you should consider and know before choosing the most suitable and safest motorcycle color, which is exactly why I wrote this step by step guide that will show you how to choose your motorcycle color.
So, let’s get started.
What are the factors you should consider before choosing your motorcycle color?
You need to consider 4 main factors while choosing your motorcycle color, namely the design, visibility, price and safety, and the level of heat absorption.
Design
Before I even start talking about the safety factor, I think the most important thing is to first choose the color you like most, which is, of course, your personal choice.
The level of visibility
A very important factor you have to consider is the level of visibility the color provides. This is one of the most critical factors you have to consider and research has shown that choosing a dark color is less safe to ride than riding a light color motorcycle that is much more visible for car riders, especially at night.
In addition, it is important to note that if you do choose
a motorcycle that has a dark color, especially black which is more popular,
then make sure your safety equipment is light in color because it is very
dangerous to ride at night without a light color while the best light color is
by far white.
Having said brighter colors are safer for riding, it still depends on where you
live; for example, if you live in an area where there is snow most of the time,
white or bright colors, in general, are not the best for you and I would rather
advise you go for orange. While if you live in an area where it mostly rain,
red will be better.
As you have seen, it depends on your area and where you live. So, do your research well and decide the right color for yourself.
The level of heat absorption
This is most important to me than anything else. It is undoubtedly the level of how the motorcycle color absorbs heat because nothing is more annoying than a hot motorcycle. I personally got hurt when I put my feet on a hot frame, and guess what? Dark colors absorb lots of heat, especially black, and it gets really awful during summer months.
In my opinion, that’s exactly why riding a black color motorcycle is awful, especially if you are living in a hot country. If the level of heat and sun in your country is high, you can get hurt with the frame, so you really have to take that into consideration, and of course, white color is best because it absorbs heat the least.
Price
This might surprise you but know that the more beautiful the motorcycle color, the higher its price, especially customized ones.
For example, Harley offers a special fancy color that includes colors in design and customization but it is more expensive. In fact, Harley has the option of color matching, which is also offered by every company.
Pros & cons of each motorcycle color
White
White is the most preferable and recommended color because white will give you the best level of visibility at night and the best thing about white is that it barely absorbs heat. So, if you live in very hot places like Africa or Brazil, white is the best color for you because it is very bearable compare to a dark color.
The truth about white is that it is not the most popular color among riders and I can understand many companies don’t offer white models because it is not the most beautiful. But companies like BMW and KTM changed the fact and produced some pretty good white motorcycle models which made white more popular.
In addition, the disadvantage of having a white color is that it gets dirty very quickly and even small dirt is noticeably seen on it, especially if you are the type who likes to ride in dirty areas, but in my opinion, it is still best motorcycle color because it is the safest.
Black
Black is considered to be the most popular color among riders because it signifies power and prestige, while most people choose it because it is a very beautiful color produced by almost all companies, including Harley, Honda, Yamaha and more.
But with all that, black is the least safe color for riding because it is barely seen by other riders at night and even in the morning. In my opinion, black is also the worst color because it absorbs a lot of heat in the summer, and if you live in hot places, you may get hurt from a hot frame, so you have to take that into account.
The truth is that most riders have a black motorcycle and if you also fall into this, make sure you have a light-colored protective gear, especially your helmet, while if you didn’t have light-colored protective equipment, paste a white tape on all the motorcycle frame so that you can be easily seen when riding at night.
Red
Red is a very popular color among Honda models and the truth is that red comes in all kinds, such as dark red, light red, and even burgundy. But in the case of red, even bright red absorb lots of heat.
In addition, red looks pretty at night and is very dominant, so it is considered a safe color for riding which I am sure everyone will be happy to get. It is a very beautiful and emotional color, and Honda produces most of its model in red, which is another advantage.
Orange
Orange is very beautiful and the brightest color after white. It is very safe to ride, looks perfect in every situation and known as the color of all KMT models because KMT has amazing models painted in orange and well-blended with black finishes.
Plus, I love orange because it doesn’t absorb much heat and is very convenient. And I didn’t find even one drawback of it.
Green
Green signifies calm while, in most cases, green reminds me of Kawasaki because Kawasaki produces its motorcycle in green and has started doing it since the 70s.
Green is really a great motorcycle color and is favorable at night. It doesn’t absorb lots of heat and is very beautiful because Kawasaki has the most beautiful motorcycle models in the market. It is also very easy to clean when it is dirty and no less perfect.
Silver (gray)
Most silver-colored motorcycles are usually old models and the truth is that there is no specific company known to make motorcycles with a gray color. Gray color doesn’t absorb lots of heat but it’s also not visible to other riders, especially if you live in a state with lots of winter or haze and would not even look good in the morning.
In addition, silver color is not so pretty in my opinion, so I would less recommend it, while it is also important to take into consideration that silver color models are always cheap.
Blue
Blue is one of the most beautiful colors you can find in the market and is mostly recognized by Yamaha because Yamaha produces very beautiful blue motorcycles. Blue symbolizes calm and honesty, which is a really impressive color and I personally really love it.
Blue can be visible at night, depending on the kind of blue you choose. If it is dark blue, it will be very hard to be seen by other riders at night, but for light blue, it is the opposite. Dark blue also absorbs heat than light blue, while I know you will love and prefer the blue color because it is really impressive.
Yellow
Yellow is a color I personally love the least for two reasons. The first reason is that it’s not a pretty color, which is why it isn’t popular and there aren’t many companies producing a yellow motorcycle. The second is that it doesn’t look bright at night.
But there are some good models in yellow, and at times, you may like it. So, no problem taking it because it will be very cheap.
Purple
Purple is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and impressive colors for motorcycles and is visible to other riders because it is a very dominant color. I really like it, but the truth about it is that it is quite rare to find. It is also important to note that a dark purple absorbs heat but not as much as a black color.
But with all that, a purple motorcycle is difficult to find, so you may have a very hard time finding a purple motorcycle.
Is riding a dark-colored motorcycle dangerous?
Riding a dark-colored motorcycle is dangerous only when you ride at night without bright protective gear because it will be very difficult for other riders to identify you and your motorcycle while the most difficult dark colors to detect are black and dark blue.
If you don’t know, a lot of people die every day from motorcycle accidents and few of those accidents happen at night because of the inability to be seen by other riders. And for this reason, it is more dangerous to ride a dark-colored motorcycle at night.
So, if your motorcycle is black, make sure you wear a bright-colored protective gear when riding at night or at least stick a white adhesive tape on your motorcycle so that you can be seen by other riders.
