What should I buy small or big wheels for dirt bikes?

The truth is, each size has its advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on your personal preference.

For example, small wheels are faster than big wheels. However larger wheels are more stable than small wheels. Every wheel works differently, so what actually matters is where you will be riding your bike and the features you prefer. If you are confused, perhaps the pros and cons of each wheel will give you some clarity.

Small Wheels

The advantage of small wheels is that they are very fast and lighter than large and heavy wheels. For example, when climbing a mountain, it is considerably easy to reach the top faster with smaller wheels than large and thick wheels. Similarly, it is also a lot safe and secure to ride with small wheels. Still, it is important to know that small wheels are not meant for novice riders, only advanced riders who are skilled or those who have competed in a dirt bike race. In addition, small wheels can be destroyed much faster than large wheels.

On the other hand, small wheels have great difficulty moving in mud or when it rains. Personally, I do not recommend small wheels for novice riders.

Advantages

  • Much faster than big wheels.
  • Easy to use.

Disadvantages

  • They destroy quickly.
  • It’s hard to ride in surfaces like mud or water.
  • Less stable than large wheels.
  • Not recommend for beginners.

Big Wheels

I prefer large wheels on small wheels. The vital reason is, large wheels have a long life span as compared to small wheels which have a short life span and destroy easily. In parallel, large wheels are all-terrain. It is unchallenging to drive with large wheels on hard terrains such as mud and sand. In addition, you have much more control and stability on your dirt bike with large wheels.

In my opinion, novice riders must emphasize on buying big wheels that will keep them safe and secure. Moreover, big wheels are water-resistant. The disadvantage is that big wheels are not as fast as small wheels. Hence, if you desire to ride your dirt bikes at a crazy speed, it is better to buy small wheels.

Advantages

  • It is much easier to ride in hard surfaces like mud or sand.
  • Long life span.
  • Much stable than small wheels.
  • Excellent for beginners.

Disadvantages

  • It is difficult to travel with them on ordinary surfaces.
  • Not as fast as big wheels.
