Hand soap – It is very important to use high-quality cleaner. I personally recommend this amazing cleaner from Amazon which is the best I have found and it costs in a very cheap price click here to view.

Gloves – I highly recommend using rubber gloves and not nylon gloves because they can tear while cleaning the air filter. I use these amazing rubber gloves from Amazon that only cost $10. Click here to view.

Rag – Choosing a good rag is definitely an important thing. I do not recommend using nylon rags, but to use cloth rags. I personally use these cloth rags from Amazon. Click here to view.

Screwdriver – a lot of people use a screwdriver that does not fit the screws of the air filter but doing so can destroy the screws which means you will have to replace them.

Step 1 – Clean environment

A clean environment is one of the most important things when cleaning the ATV air filter because dirt can damage it.

It is very important that the environment, and especially the floor, are cleaned of any dirt and you also need to wash your hands before you start.

Also, I personally recommend cleaning the air filter only in a closed and clean place.

Step 2 – Remove the air filter from the seat

Removing the air filter from the seat can seem a very simple thing but in fact, you can cause damage to the air filter if you are not careful. Therefore, it is very important to wash your hands before you start removing the air filter.

Once you’ve done this, you can start to remove the air filter from the seat.

The air filter is found under the seat and to remove it there is a clip in the back of the seat. What you need to do is just pull the latch.

After that, you will see that the air filter is locked in by 4 screws. Simply remove the screws and slowly and carefully remove the air filter and put it in a clean place. I recommend putting it on a towel and not on the floor.

Step 3 – Clean the air filter

When you finish removing the air filter from the seat you can start cleaning it.

First, take a bucket and put in some cleaning solution or hand soap. Now you can start cleaning the air filter. It is very important to clean your air filter gently and not too forcefully so as not to cause damage and accidentally tear the air filter.

Also, it is very important not to buy gasoline or other combustible material because it can do huge damage to your air filter.

Step 4 – Dry the air filter

After cleaning the air filter, you can let it dry.

It is very important not to let the air filter dry in the sun because it can cause damage to the air filter and dirty it.

I highly recommend letting your air filter dry for a few hours to be sure that it dries in the best possible way.

Step 5 – Cleaning dirt from the airbox

While the air filter dries you need to start cleaning the dirt from the airbox. It is very important to clean the airbox because a dirty airbox can damage your air filter.

To clean the airbox I highly recommend using the Twin Air I showed you up in the recommended equipment. Just take a bucket, rag and the Twin Air and start cleaning the airbox.

It is very important not to put dirt back in the airbox while cleaning so as not to do damage to the engine.

Step 6 – Put the air filter back in place

Once your air filter has dried you should spread some of the filter oil onto the air filter. It is important that all the ends of the air filter are oiled so that it works better.

Also, before you return your air filter you need to lay down a layer of opaque fat to prevent the pollutants from entering the air filter.

After that, you can start returning the air filter to the airbox. To return it to the seat you need to put it inside the airbox and close it with the 4 screws. It is also very important to return the air filter in the correct position so as not to attack the engine.

What mistakes should you avoid while cleaning the air filter of an ATV?

There are some mistakes you can make while cleaning your air filter that can seem simple but in fact, they can destroy your air filter and worse, your ATV.

Cleaning the air filter too hard

Cleaning the air filter too hard can create very big tears in your air filter therefore, it is very important to clean the air filter gently.

If you can’t clean the air filter in a gentle way, I highly recommend cleaning the air filter with a brush. I personally use this brush which is very cheap from Amazon. Click here to view.

Using hard chemicals to clean the air filter

Using hard chemicals such as bleach or any other chemical substance can destroy the air filter and disassemble it.

Therefore, I recommend you buy from a reputable cleaning company that offers detergents that won’t cause damage to the air filter.
