How Fast Does a 300cc Motorcycle Go?

300cc motorcycles are perhaps the perfect type of motorcycle for any beginner rider. They have the best features that fit any rider, but the question is whether the maximum speed 300cc motorcycles manage to reach considered safe.

So, what is the maximum speed of 300cc motorcycles? Most motorcycles with a 300cc engine manage to reach an average maximum speed of up to 100mph (160km), while it should be noted that it varies greatly between motorcycles. This stated speed is calculated with the exception of riding equipment, the weight of the rider, and other factors that affect the maximum speed of the motorcycle.

The speed that 300cc motorcycles manage to reach is relatively safe, especially when compared to larger engines that manage to reach much higher speeds. This maximum speed of 300cc motorcycles is a speed that any rider can handle and will not even reach.

What are the factors affecting 300cc motorcycle speed?

Weight

Weight is always the number one factor that most affects the maximum speed of the motorcycle, while it is important to note that if I say weight, I mean both the weight of the motorcycle and the weight of the rider.

In general, the rider’s weight has much more effect on the speed than the motorcycle’s weight. So, the higher you weigh, the slower the maximum speed and acceleration of your motorcycle.

For example, if you weigh 80 pounds and there is another rider who weighs 70 pounds, and you ride the same type of motorcycle, the rider who weighs 70 pounds will be able to reach higher maximum speeds than you. And sometimes, it can be very significant even with that 10 pounds.

Therefore, if you want to achieve very high speeds with your motorcycle or you want to participate in motorcycle racing, and your weight is high, I highly recommend you to diet and lose weight to achieve the highest speeds from your motorcycle.

Resistance to the wind

Most riders are not even aware of this, although it is one of the least factors that affect acceleration and the maximum speed a 300cc motorcycle can reach. The wind can significantly lower the speed you can reach, and in addition, it makes riding much more difficult.

This is why 300cc motorcycles that come with a built-in windshield can reach much higher speeds than those that do not have a windshield.

In addition, it is important to know that beyond the windshield, there are other various factors that are less significant for speed, but do manage to have a small effect, such as tires, motorcycle sharpness, the shape of your motorcycle and more.

Fuel

This may sound strange, but in my opinion, fuel is the factor that most affects your motorcycle speed after weight, while fuel can add a lot of weight to your motorcycle, at least 10 pounds.

If you want to save a lot of weight on your motorcycle and reach a high maximum speed, the simplest way you can do this is by riding with a half tank. This can save you at least 5 pounds, which may sound small, but it could significantly increase the speed you can reach. I recommend you ride with a half tank only if you are not going for a long ride.

2-stroke engines versus 4-stroke engines

There are two types of engines in motorcycles, namely 4-stroke and 2-stroke, and each of the engines has its pros and cons. But to take a look in terms of speed and power, 2-stroke engines were much faster and powerful than 4-stroke engines.

However, as I said, each of the motors has its advantages and disadvantages. So, even though 2-stroke engines are much faster, it still does not mean that you will have to choose them at the end because 2-stroke engines have a lot of disadvantages.

Here is a brief explanation of the two engines

  • 4-stroke engines – 4-stroke engines are significantly much slower and less powerful than 2-stroke engines because they are heavier, but yet, 4-stroke engines are much more stable and require less maintenance.
  • 2-stroke engines – 2-stroke engines are very powerful and much lighter in weights, but they require much more fuel and oil, a lot of maintenance, are generally more expensive, and not as durable as 4-stroke engines.

Number of cylinders

The number of cylinders is a factor that greatly affects the speed of your motorcycle. Cylinders compress and burn the fuel mixture to transfer energy to heat. There are 3 types of cylinders and each has a different speed:

  • 4-cylinder – 4-cylinder is mostly found in expensive and sports motorcycles, especially in engines higher than 600cc, but you will also find it in 300cc motorcycles.
  • 2-cylinder – 2-cylinder is for all motorcycles below 500cc, which means most 300cc motorcycles have 2-cylinder.
  • 1-cylinder – 1-cylinder in motorcycles is more for off-road bikes and less for street motorcycles and it produces the least speed of all the 3 types of cylinders.

In general, you only have to worry about 300cc motorcycles with only 2- or 4-cylinder while I personally recommend 300cc motorcycles that come with 2-cylinder because 4-cylinder with 300cc motorcycle will be very fast and less safe for beginners.

Expensive motorcycles versus cheap motorcycles

The truth is pretty clear, but I must state it.

Expensive motorcycles are no doubt much faster because you get what you pay for, while on expensive motorcycles, you will be able to reach a higher speed with the help of a more powerful engine, wind protection, sharper, more advanced wheels and more cylinders, which in most cases you won’t get on a cheap motorcycle. So, always remember the more money you spend on a motorcycle, the more value and speed.

What is a 300cc motorcycle and who is it for?

300cc motorcycles are now the basis of the motorcycle market and are just perfect for beginners. They contain everything a beginner rider should have on a motorcycle and are cheap to maintain, sold for lower prices, fuel-efficient, and more, making it very attractive for beginners.

In my opinion, the best thing about 300cc motorcycles is that they are very much safe to ride and very palmy, unlike other motorcycles with smaller engines such as 50cc or 125cc motorcycles that can be quite boring after a few months of riding because they are quite slow.

It is important to note that 300cc motorcycles are great for beginners, but at the same time, some 300cc motorcycles are suitable for racing and less recommended for beginners because they are a bit faster and aggressive. So, this should be taken into account and I recommend that you consult a reputable rider or an expert before buying a 300cc motorcycle.

How do I reach the highest speed on a 300cc motorcycle?

You just bought a 300cc motorcycle and you are not satisfied with the maximum speed it’s providing you, or you just want to get more speed? If so, I recommend you follow these tips to improve your motorcycle speed:

  • Clean the air filter – Cleaning the air filter is one of the easiest ways to achieve more speed with your motorcycle, and by cleaning the air filter, you are not just going to get better speed and acceleration but also a better performance of your motorcycle. The air filter may look like a small part, it is perhaps one of the most important parts of the motorcycle.
  • Lose weight – If you want to achieve a much higher speed with your motorcycle, then the best way you can do this is to lose weight. This will not only help you achieve more speed but will make you feel better and comfortable while riding.
  • Get wind protection – If you live in a city with strong winds and stormy weather, you will need to get wind protection for your motorcycle. This will allow you to reach much higher speed and you will also be able to control the motorcycle more easily.
  • Ride with a half fuel tank – Riding with a half fuel tank can save you a lot of weight from the motorcycle and let you ride at higher speeds.
